Search engine optimisation 'improved by getting active on social media'

Online marketers should "get active" on social media portals as part of their search engine optimisation (SEO) campaigns.

This is the opinion of Search Engine Journal (SEJ) correspondent Dave Erickson Fuentes, who discussed the prominence of sites such as Twitter in SEO strategy in the wake of news that Google is to include real-time searches in its results pages.

He said those who have not already began using social media platforms to boost rankings must now "get cracking" on this side of marketing.

"It would be naive for us to think that we didn't see this coming. Personalised and real-time search was definitely the next step for Google - and probably for the rest of the search engines," he remarked.

Mr Fuentes also discussed how high quality content can be the key to SEO success.

He said this type of information needs to not only be understandable, but also tangible and contain calls to action for users.

The commentator explained this can be achieved by creating something that "entices emotion" among readers.

Earlier this month, SEJ contributor Jordan Kasteler underlined the importance of firms setting resources aside for social media campaigns, including well-defined policies and guidelines for employees that look after this side of marketing.ADNFCR-2033-ID-19531434-ADNFCR
