Firms hoping to step up their search engine marketing campaigns by providing quality content should not forget about keywords, one expert has advised.

Author Joel Comm has told Success magazine that keywords should be prominent in content produced for search engine optimisation (SEO) purposes.

He recommended placing a keyword in the headline as well as the article text, while content must be kept fresh and "original".

"Google and the other large search engines prefer to index content that is natural," said Mr Comm.

He continued: "If you are preparing your content properly, your article header and body text are going to naturally contain keywords relevant to your topic."

Mr Comm went on to underline the importance of securing inbound links from other websites in order to boost traffic and SEO.

According to eFactory, Google's PageRank system is directly affected by the number of inbound links to a web address.
